Year 11 FInal Exam timetables

Your child should have received their final exam timetable last week (printed on yellow paper) which details all of the essential information for the forthcoming weeks. We have been talking to students about how to look after themselves during exam season, sharing hints and tips they can use before and during exams. Please take a look at this useful advice from Childline which gives some practical suggestions. Our exams officer Mrs Lippiett is on hand to answer any exam related queries. The national contingency day for any rearranged exams is the 26 June. This would be the final possible exam date.

Year 11 Individual Exam Timetables

Your child has been given their individual exam timetable this afternoon. This timetable details all of the exams which they have been entered for this Summer in date order. The last possible date for GCSE exams is the WJEC national contingency day on Wednesday 26th June. This is a date held in reserve in case of any disruption to exams. Further information about conduct and arrangements for your child’s exams will be shared after the Easter holidays.

We are thrilled with the year group’s application to their revision and learning for these exams already, and we have had excellent attendance at revision sessions and Champions Hour - over a third of the year group have already used Champions Hour to revise in school up until 16:45! Please encourage them to keep revising over the holidays.

PArents' Evening / Mock results / Revision - Tuesday 27 February

On Monday your child will receive their Mock Exam Results. These are an important milestone in their journey towards completing their GCSEs this Summer. These will be available for parents via Go 4 Schools and will also be handed out at Tuesday's Year 11 parents evening (4:00-6:30pm in the Main hall).

Next week also sees the start of our after-school “Get Exam Ready” revision sessions. These will begin on Thursday 29th February and run from 15:00-15:45. Students will be provided with individualised timetables detailing sessions for their subjects and for parents an overview timetable is available here. From Tuesday 5th March, after these first “Get Exam Ready” sessions there will also be a further “Champions Hour'' available to students who wish to continue to revise on the school site, staffed by a senior member of staff in the library with refreshments. This “Champions Hour” will run from 15:45-16:45.

To support students in their revision, we are also pleased to be launching our St Cenydd Year 11 Revision Hub. Our Hub contains a range of revision resources for our subjects. Students can also access the hub through the Year 11 Google Classsroom or by clicking here.

If you have any questions, members of SLT will be available at Tuesday’s parents evening.

Mock exam celebration

On completion of their full set of GCSE mock exams we were pleased to celebrate with Year 11 this afternoon. In a special assembly students were all given a cupcake to celebrate the attitude and commitment they have shown to these exams. This bodes well for the summer exam series which begins on May 9th. Mock exam results will be given to students on Monday 26th February and to parents on Tuesday 27th February at parents evening. Well done Year 11!

PROM PASSPORT Launch

Last week Mr Harrison launched the prom passport for Year 11 students. Further information about the prom passport is attached below. Should you have any questions about the prom passport please don't hesitate to contact Mr Corke in the first instance.

Transition information and key dates

It was lovely to see so many parents at this week's Year 11 Transition Evening. We hope you found the information shared useful. If you still have questions about 6th form transition, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs Croll by email - crollj@stcenydd.co.uk

Year 11 pupils will now all be invited to complete a digital free choice survey indicating those subjects they would like to study in 6th form.

transition evening - 5:00pm Thursday 25 January

Dear Year 11 Parent / Carers

We are approaching the time of year when we begin to consider the transition programme and arrangements for pupils in year 11 who are considering studying A Levels on completion of their GCSE studies.

All Year 11 pupils and their parents/guardians are invited to attend our Year 11 Options evening.  The purpose of this evening will be to inform you of the courses available to your child in Year 12, in addition to sharing further information about what your child can expect as a St Cenydd 6th Form student. There will also be an opportunity to speak with our Subject Leaders about what their courses have to offer.

During the evening, we will also share with you some useful revision strategies that you can use to support your child at home, as they prepare for their upcoming mock exams and in readiness for their Summer GCSE exams.

In preparation for this event all Year 11 pupils have been given a copy of the KS5 prospectus, this can also be found on the Options page within the student tab on our school website.

We look forward to working with your child through this important process and look forward to meeting with you on Thursday 25 January 2024.

Yours sincerely

Mr A. Jones                                        Mrs J. Croll

Assistant Headteacher                  Head of Year 12/13

Year 11 Mock Exams February 2024

During the two weeks commencing 29th January and 5th February, your child will be sitting a programme of mock GCSE exams for their subjects. The timetable for these exams is available to you at the bottom of this page.

Mock exams are a useful tool for students, teachers and parents to measure how well students are progressing in their studies as they prepare for their GCSE examinations, which are now only a few months away. They will also enable students to practise their revision techniques, and the feedback they receive from these mock exams will indicate where students need to focus their revision moving forward. Some of the revision techniques students should be using to revise will be shared with you at the Year 11 Transition Evening on Thursday 25th January.

These exams are invaluable in allowing pupils to experience the work ethic that is needed for GCSE examinations, and to develop the resilience needed during this process. Students will sit their mock exams under usual exam conditions and all usual exam standards will apply, which include no electronic devices and a prompt arrival for exam starts. Your support to ensure that your child is fully focused and prepared for these mock exams is greatly appreciated. Good attendance during the mock exams is incredibly important.

Mock exam results will be shared with your child on Monday 26th February. Year 11 Parents Evening will take place the next day - Tuesday 27th February - and a set of results will be available for you then.
